生活在火山地带飞龙种铠龙的幼体，脾性是飞龙类怪物中难得的温顺胆小。
作为一种飞龙，它的自卫能力是一般怪物远远无法比拟的，就像名字一样，它的外壳特征酷似岩石。
岩龙平时潜在地面以下，只把背部露在外面，利用这种拟态伪装捕食靠近的虫子或小动物。当感觉到敌人逼近时，它会从地面一跃而出。进攻的主要手段有：以坚硬的外壳撞击敌人，依靠体内的热量把毒液汽化后放出等。岩龙进行拟态伪装时，会用坚硬的头部和鹤嘴一样的翼爪挖掘洞穴，利用灵巧的翼爪，它还可以在地下挖掘通道并移动，不过胸口那里有一菱形的地方是弱点。
不过，翼也因为挖掘而失去了柔软性，导致飞行能力大大下降。但这并不是说明它没有飞行能力，有报告说明，一些猎人曾目击过岩龙进行短距离的飞行。前文已经说明了岩龙利用自己的拟态伪装捕食猎物，不过它们在享受猎物的同时也会把周围的石头一并吞下。
岩龙可以把岩石中的矿物成分积蓄在身体的外壳上，这些矿物石灰化后会变得尤为坚固。另外，生存在火山带中的一部分细菌能够在分解岩石或矿物的同时产生能量，岩龙以自己的消化器官培养这些细菌，从中摄取能量。在食料贫乏的火山地区，这的确是相当不错的共生关系。
决定岩龙食性时，让人犹豫了很久，虽然岩龙除了体内的细菌外，也会捕食小型动物，但将其定为植食而且其成熟体铠龙主要也是以体内的菌类为食，这才确定了岩龙的食性。岩龙刚孵化的时候就有150公斤重，但它体质娇弱，极容易被速龙猎食，因此凯龙通常都是把蛋产在砂石滩附近，小岩龙一出生就可以挖个洞躲起来。岩龙初期成长很快，不多每隔一周体重就会增加一倍，岩龙需要靠吞石子来磨碎胃里的食物，它们似乎比较喜欢燕雀石的味道。
虽然是食素的怪物，但为了获得快速成长时所需的蛋白质，它们也会捕食巨蜂，岩龙的体内可以产生有毒气体，这不仅仅自卫武器，也是加餐时的重要工具，除此之外，岩龙体表会分泌出粘性附着物，可以将岩石粘在背上作为防御手段。
岩龙每天都过着——白天睡觉，晚上觅食，吃饱了就睡，睡醒了再吃的日子，这一切都是为发育成铠龙作准备，当它们长到那种大小后便不再有天敌，成为名副其实的“火山之主”。
